I have the same question as michele , that is, how any new changes would apply at this time in 2010. I have heard that COBRA law is currently being promulgated, for an extension of benefits. Have any changes been made to date , and /or is there any current congressional proposal which would extend the 18 month benefit to those who are currently being layed off?

Sorry, the new COBRA regulations did not extend the l8-month COBRA maximum duration. The regs dealt with the premium subsidy and corresponding notification requirements.

/My question is: My Cobra Coverage with Aetna is ending on 12/28/09. I need to find out if Obama's new legislation that he signed for continuation of the subsidy coverage also relates to people who's regular Cobra benefits are ending due to the 18 month deadline. I do not qualify for the subsidy because I was laid off on 7/1/08, but I do not want to lose my Cobra medical coverage either. Did Obama also extend regular Cobra benefits?
